Brynn Cartelli

Album review by Sara Rosenthal

Brynn Cartelli has continued to amaze after gaining recognition as the youngest winner in ‘The Voice’ history at 15 years old in 2018. She’s opened for Kelly Clarkson, Maroon 5, and One Republic. Her debut EP, Based on a True Story, was released in 2021. Ever since then, Cartelli has flexed her stunning vocals and candid artistry with each single.

Her first full-length album, OUT OF THE BLUE, was released on March 1st. It contains many stories, and chronicles her transition from a small town in Massachusetts to the bustling city of New York. For Brynn, the color blue signifies a spectrum of meanings and emotions, encompassing sadness, sympathy, sensitivity, inspiration, intuition, and imagination.

The first single, “Boy From Home,” describes loving a new city while missing someone from home. This album also contains fan favorites like “Secondhand Smoke,” which currently has over 2 million streams on Spotify. It discusses coming to terms with the end of a toxic friendship. “Lucky To Love You” was prominently featured on Netflix’s Love is Blind, and “Gemini” has a stunning self-directed music video. She named OUT OF THE BLUE after lyrics from “The Blue,” which she performed live on the Today show earlier this month. This album contains something for everyone, and demonstrates Brynn’s relatability and vulnerability.
