FLETCHER

Album Review by Sara Rosenthal

FLETCHER has released her second full-length album In Search of the AntidoteThis album details the search for an antidote, a thrilling and desperate journey to find answers and a cure in all its forms. She describes In Search of the Antidote as a "reflective, chaotic, and healing journey." This release follows a very tumultuous year as FLETCHER went from performing alongside Miley Cyrus to battling Lyme Disease. She utilized the creation of all 11 tracks as “a lighthouse to guide her back to her own heart,” and fans are now a part of this journey with each listen.

Through singles like "Lead Me On" and "Eras Of Us," FLETCHER shares the different realizations, ego deaths, and personal rebirths encompassing what it means to be on an accurate soul search. During "Doing Better," TikTok-uproar-inducing verses juxtapose a contemplative chorus as she wrestles with her ego. "Your girlfriend never thanked me / For making her go viral / Fuck it, I'm her idol!" she boasts; This line is undoubtedly going to be screamed fervidly by fans on her current global tour. The cascading synths in “Pretending” make the track a clear album highlight. It reveals the relatable trope of questioning whether the people you pass in daily life could be your soulmate, even the barista who serves your coffee. It channels unbridled candor in tackling even the somewhat niche experiences.

“Antidote” brings the project to a resonant close. At over four minutes, it’s the album’s longest offering and provides a dreamy meditation on love and escapism. “You’re the medication I wanna take / You are my antidote” the ethereal vocals divulge. In Search Of The Antidote is an unapologetic reflection of the non-linearity of healing.
