Lauv

Single review by Brittany Ormiston

Lauv’s recent single ‘Potential’ is a track describing a friend to lover pipeline. The soft drum loop and pop ear candy creates a space for the listener to become comfortable in their own skin, and dance like no one is watching. Throughout the song, Lauv’s vocals are at the forefront with an unwavering confidence as he delivers lyrics more personal than ever before. He unveils his wide vocal range at the end of both choruses with effortless vocal runs. The songwriting is flirty and fun, but at the same time Lauv means business. “I’ll sell you on the vision, but this heart is not for rental” indicates Lauv is in it for the long haul and wants all of this person to himself. ‘Potential’ may have you contemplating your own friendships, and thinking about that special someone.

During the writing process, Lauv realized he was writing this song about a boy for the first time. After this life-changing moment, he started to express himself more freely in his music and embrace who he is entirely. “That’s what this next chapter is about. Getting close to myself,” shares Lauv on Instagram. He is trying his very best to live authentically, and be in the moment despite struggling with it all in the past. He is sharing more on his social media to encourage his supporters to do the same. “Don’t be so afraid to fail. It's okay. You got this and the world needs your truth,” states Lauv. Shoot your shot and live your best life, bestie.
