Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler are a good example of the magic that happens when the stars align. The east coast natives have been making music together for the past five years, and have since created a musical bond that will last a lifetime.
Zucker and Cutler’s story started at the University of Connecticut during a fraternity party. Cutler was there to see a friend, Zucker was performing, and the two were introduced. Zucker had actually known about Cutler from her song ‘Peace Signs’ he heard on SoundCloud. Fast forward a little bit, and their paths crossed yet again when both were signed to Republic Records and manager Jesse Coren. One day, Zucker invited Cutler to a recording studio where they wrote ‘better off,’ a song that currently sits at almost 200 million streams on Spotify.
Since then, they have crafted two indie-pop EPs and a full-length album titled brent, brent ii, and now brent iii, the most recent entry. The name comes from Brentwood, a road they would frequently see on the way to a coffee shop. When asked about the inspiration for the songs on brent iii, Zucker explains that it came from their “individual experiences” with relationships as opposed to their friendship with each other. He added their songwriting sessions were “partially therapizing.” Through ups and downs, Cutler and Zucker have had each other’s backs, which is evident in both their music and their interviews. They’ve shared memories of watching movies, and traveling to Big Bear, California. The two have nothing but kind words to say about each other with Zucker revealing that “[Cutler’s] creativity is really admirable and inspiring.” Cutler states that their time together has “definitely made her a better musician,” and “hopefully a better collaborator.”
On the possibility of brent iiii Zucker says, “We’re not closing the door really; we’ll never say never.” One thing that he does know for certain is that they’re “always gonna be collaborating and working together.”
