Jack & Jack

Symbiosis: the interaction between two different organisms living in close physical association, typically to the advantage of both. Pop-rap duo Jack & Jack (Jack Johnson and Jack Gilinsky) have come to realize they are better together. After a short hiatus that allowed both members to “explore their own artistic vision” and the decision to go fully independent, they are back and stronger than ever before. Their friendship inspired the tour name, The Symbiosis US Tour, and the Indianapolis show depicted just how strong and unbreakable that bond is.
From the moment the duo set foot on stage, the crowd’s energy skyrocketed. The sensation of the bass drum vibrated your entire body from the cement below your feet. The fluorescent lighting against the wood paneling behind the band gave the entire room a whimsical vibe. “Every time I think I’ve found somebody // I Just wish that somebody was you,” sang the fans as they pointed in sync to Gilinsky. As the track wrapped, he brought the microphone to his heart and smiled. “You all have the stage shaking already!” responded Johnson once the crowd died down. He truly did not know what the fans had in store for the rest of the evening…
After acting out the lyrics of ‘Stuttering’ and sending chuckles throughout the room, Johnson owned his rap verses in ‘Closure’ and left the fans wondering how on earth he delivers every line so flawlessly. For the second half of the setlist, Jack & Jack surprised the crowd by doing a compilation of a large part of their discography so every person could hear parts of their favorite tracks. G’s angelic vocals in ‘Promise Me,’ the transition from ‘Day Dreaming’ into ‘Beg,’ and a performance of their newest track ‘Appetite’ featuring edwin were some major highlights. But wait, they weren’t done yet….With the electric guitar elevating the experience, Jack & Jack dusted off some throwbacks such as ‘Flights,’ ‘Like That featuring SK8,’ and ‘Wild Life.’ It was as if we all were transported back to 2014 again, and the fans screamed every word at the top of their lungs. Jack & Jack were both taken aback at the crowd participation, and it reiterated how long their fans have stuck around.
“It feels like we’ve grown up with ya’ll…You guys are our family, the spine and the backbone of what we do,” shared Johnson. It’s no doubt everyone in the room was touched by this simple but meaningful statement, and the bond between the duo and fans grew in strength. As Jack & Jack ended the night with fan-favorite ‘2 Cigarettes,’ the duo certainly took note to come back to Indianapolis on their next tour. Every fan, every supporter knows that no one compares to THE Jack & Jack.
