KNOX
Article by Brittany Ormiston
“Love kinda sucks” fully encompasses Knox’s brand, and his innate ability to create upbeat sad boi songs. He recently wrapped up his first headline tour, and sold every single ticket up for grabs. Indianapolis was lucky enough to be included in the nine show run, and Knox’s performance was exceptional. From his flawless vocals to his charisma, Knox’s first performance in Indianapolis certainly will not be his last.
The second Knox hit the stage, there was an energy shift in the venue bringing a wave of positivity and upliftment. Everyone in attendance was instantly energized, and ready to dance their feet off. That is exactly what they did for the duration of the show. During the first song of the night, ‘Love Letter,’ the crowd jumped in sync and held up four fingers as Knox sang the lyric “love is only four letters // but you’ll never catch her sayin’ ‘em out loud.” Just based on the crowd’s engagement from this alone, it was obvious this night would exceed all expectations. Knox’s viral hit ‘Sneakers’ was even better in a live setting, and displayed how much of a lyrical genius he truly is. The play on words amidst his songwriting is subtle yet truly remarkable, and deserves to be recognized on every level. His track ‘Not The 1975’ is receiving that recognition at this very moment. It is being played on FM radio stations across the country, and currently charting on the Top 40. The crowd went absolutely wild for this one in Indianapolis to the point of the floor shaking forcefully, and rightfully so.
On another note, Knox became very sentimental at moments throughout the night especially when introducing his track ‘NYC.’ He mentioned writing songs for other artists over the years, but kept ‘NYC’ for himself since he has such an “emotional attachment to it.” Knox went into the crowd while singing the track, and it felt like a scene straight out of a movie. He thoroughly enjoys engaging with his ever growing fanbase in any way that he can. The tie-dye party in Chicago at the beginning of tour is the perfect example. He even took a moment to exchange friendship bracelets with someone in the front row in Indianapolis to make for an unforgettable evening.
The memorable evening continued on as Knox flipped the narrative by adding two unreleased tracks about love to the setlist. ‘Me, Myself, and Your Eyes’ comes out this month, and is an upbeat banger for Valentine’s Day. With only an acoustic guitar, Knox delivered a sweet and tender song called ‘Invisible.’ The crowd stayed pin-drop silent while he played, and erupted in applause once the last note was strummed. Listeners will be graced with ‘Invisible’ later this year. With tour being over, it is safe to say being a monumental mess is our current state. Nonetheless, keep your eye out as Knox takes over the world one bop at a time.
