Megan Moroney

Article by Brittany Ormiston

Girls in blue dresses, cowboy boots, and white bows arrived in numbers to the Fishers Event Center. Countless pictures were captured in front of the “Am I Okay?” blue heart inflatable to commemorate the evening. Sweet treats from the Ohana Donuts & Ice Cream food truck filled the air with the smell of fresh pastries. The laughter echoing from friend groups was like music to one’s ears, endearing and heartwarming. From the pre-party alone, it was obvious the Megan Moroney concert was going to be a fundamental moment of girlhood.

3, 2, 1… Megan appeared at the top of the steps with a blue sparkly dress and white cowboy boots, perfectly matching all of the fans in the crowd looking back at her. She twirled and skipped across the stage to say hello. The volume of which the crowd sang back the lyrics of ‘Man on the Moon’ was astounding, and indicated the die-hard fans were in the house tonight. With a city skyline on the screen and phone flashlights lighting up the arena, the lyrics of ‘No Caller ID’ echoed throughout the venue. Megan held onto her lucky lime green guitar as she introduced the next track. “Never love the boy more than you love yourself,” she shared. While listening to ‘Girl in the Mirror,’ the bond between the fans and Megan became even stronger and mental notes were certainly taken. The seamless transition into ‘Sleep on My Side’ was noteworthy with the digital clock visual spelling out the lyrics.

The performance slowed down briefly as Megan took a seat inside the white heart prop. She crossed her ankles with  star clusters swirling behind her as she sang about the ‘28th of June.’ “Just ‘cause something’s good don’t mean it lasts,” she sang with a quietness to her voice. Megan surprised the crowd during ‘Miss Universe’ with a fan handpicked from tonight’s show. She handed Georgia a bouquet of flowers, and after practicing their pageant wave said, “You are beautiful. You are strong. You can do anything you set your mind to.” After inspiring the arena from front to back, Megan mentioned she wrote ‘The Girls’ about the best people in her life. Friends, mothers, and daughters all linked arms and swayed to the beat. This track was a good reminder of how important it is to cherish the ones you love.

Speaking of love…Megan had us all wanting to run off into the sunset with a blue-eyed boy who feels like home after hearing ‘Tennessee Orange.’ We were snapped back into reality with blue lighting illuminating the stage. The guitar riff for ‘Am I Okay?’ rang through the arena with the crowd screaming in response. Megan appeared back on stage for the encore to end the show with a bang. The crowd jumped in sync with such intensity their boots scuffed the floor with each beat. As the night came to a close, we all were professional emo cowgirls just like Miss Megan Moroney.
