Valley

Almost 10 years ago, two bands were double booked for the same time slot at a local recording studio in Toronto. Both bands decided to join forces after diving into each other’s music. Fast forward to the present day where alternative-pop band Valley is touring the world and performing tracks off of their most recent album Lost In Translation. Rob Laska (lead vocals), Michael "Mickey" Brandolino (guitarist), Alex Dimauro (bassist), and Karah James (drummer) are a tight-knit group of best friends with undeniable stage presence and chemistry. The second they stepped on stage in Indianapolis, the room was filled with pure bliss and authenticity.
It was essentially impossible to be sad at any point throughout the evening with the immaculate vibes and Valley’s sense of humor shining through. Laughter ensued when Alex decided to put his bass down and run across stage to put Rob on his shoulders during ‘nevermind.’ Rob then proceeded to ask the small yet mighty crowd to crouch as low as they could, and then jump on the count of three. It’s a good thing Rob’s feet were firmly planted on the ground at that point. During ‘Natural,’ Mickey was owning his guitar solo as Rob casually leaned over and placed the microphone directly up to the guitar strings as a joke. The band’s carefree personalities were brought to light even further with their dance moves. Mickey’s effortless 360 degree guitar spin during ‘Break For You,’ and hip swaying during ‘Evenings & Weekends’ brought smiles to the faces of several audience members.
All jokes aside, Valley has the innate ability to create songs accurately depicting the emotional rollercoaster of life. The pressure and norms of society, overcoming obstacles, falling in and out of love – you name it, Valley’s got it covered. There is a track for everyone to connect to within the band’s discography. In Indianapolis, Valley was about to perform ‘Like 1999’ when Rob decided to take a moment to be honest about the headspace he was in before the show. The thought ‘what is the point of anything?’ crossed his mind, but was quickly reminded of his purpose in this crazy, messed up world once setting foot on stage. ‘Like 1999’ is the nudge to put your phone down, get in tune with yourself and those around you, and treasure the little things in life. A track from the new album, ‘Fishbowl,’ goes along these same lines.
Due to technology and our fast-paced society, having intimate moments are few and far between. There is so much pressure to give 100% all of the time when in reality that is humanly impossible. “But life ain't always what you're sold // Will someone come and break this fishbowl?,” sang Rob during the chorus. Genuine, trust-worthy people will help pick up the fishbowl, break it, and set you free from the weight of the world. “Take care of each other,” stated Rob as he placed his head on Mickey’s shoulder. Valley’s soulfulness, soothing vocals, and expressive song craft left an everlasting imprint on Indianapolis. Pop the champagne, Valley is the cure-all.
