Role Model

Tour Preview by Gabrielle (Gabby) Groves

Tucker Pillsbury, better known by his stage name Role Model, kicked off the second leg of his world tour on February 3rd. After releasing his 13-track record Kansas Anymore this past July,  indie-pop singer-songwriter announced the No Place Like Tour. The tour’s name and the album’s title both were a nod to The Wizard of Oz. Role Model has already taken the tour across several European countries, such as Germany, England, and Spain, with supporting act Matilda Mann.

Initially a rapper, Role Model (then known as Tucker and later DILLIS) created a mixtape titled Since When and a self-released album, Moth, in 2016 after a bout of depression caused by injuries from skiing and skateboarding. The next year, he officially became known as Role Model, and the late rap/hip-hop artist Mac Miller took him under his wing upon the release of his EP ARIZONA IN THE SUMMER. The EP contained four indie-pop songs that featured Role Model singing instead of rapping.

Since then, the now 27-year-old has inked a deal with Interscope Records, released numerous singles and music videos, two additional EPs, and two full-length albums accompanied by three headlining tours—including Kansas Anymore and No Place Like Tour. Many of the songs on Kansas Anymore were inspired by homesickness, his comforting connection with women, and the end of his relationship with influencer Emma Chamberlain, whom he had been with for three years. In an interview with NYLON, he stated, “This is the first album where people are like, ‘It’s the most I’ve learned about you.’”

Role Model is currently taking the No Place Like Tour through Australia, the United States, and Canada with many of the dates already sold out. With him will be indie singer-songwriter Medium Build, and pop singer-songwriter Debbii Dawson. He will also join superstar Gracie Abrams on her The Secret of Us Deluxe Tour after already providing support for the original The Secret of Us Tour last fall. The deluxe tour contains six different stops in Massachusetts, Ontario, New York, California, Colorado, and Mexico.
