Big Time Rush

Article by: Brittany Ormiston

Music sounds better with….Big Time Rush. Kendall Schmidt, Logan Henderson, James Maslow, and Carlos PenaVega rolled through the town of Noblesville on a sweet summer night. The heat did not stop Rushers from jumping, dancing, and singing their hearts out to the boyband ear candy throughout the night. From headphones to live and in person, Big Time Rush’s songs make you want to drive with the windows down while simultaneously giving you the confidence to be the main character.

“And you already know that you're a star // A superstar,” sang the group, putting the crowd on cloud nine. With a red carpet visual leading to a marquee board with Big Time Rush In Real Life depicted on it, each and every fan felt like royalty and they knew it was going to be a big night. To add to the mix, Stephen Kramer Glickman (aka Gustavo Rocque from the show) joined the band on stage for a little acoustic set. With Stephen behind the piano, each member had a solo moment. Kendall sang ‘Cover Girl’ with lyrics describing beauty shining from within, and his shirt inscribed with ‘You’re Perfect’ on the front was incredibly fitting. After making us all feel loved and adored during ‘You’re Not Alone,’ Logan responded, “True words have never been spoken because we’re not alone tonight in Indiana.”

Big Time Rush picked the pace back up with the bass pounding in your chest during a combination of ‘Famous’ and ‘Oh Yeah.’ As the guitar solo wrapped up the track, all four members stood together center stage immersed by the fog. The fans were tongue-tied during ‘Paralyzed’ with Kendall on guitar and a mindblowing bridge. Talk about an out-of-body experience. After a good laugh with Carlos putting on the helmet and being pushed across the stage in a grocery cart, the band made their way to the lawn where B stage was waiting for them and lit up by twinkle lights. A little “backyard hang” commenced as they sat on stools, connected with the crowd in a more relaxed setting, and let their harmonies and flawless vocals shine through. Including Katelyn Tarver (support act, Jo Taylor from the show) for an acoustic version of ‘Count On You’ was the perfect touch. In between songs, they reminisced about performing at Ruoff Music Center 13 years prior. Being among the handful of fans who attended the show all those years ago was an indescribable feeling.

During ‘Worldwide,’ James dedicated the track to all Rushers and stated they play it every night to remind themselves how lucky they are to perform. As the outline of the stage lit up blue, James appeared once again and slid down the incline at a rapid pace. All band members stood in a line to deliver impressive footwork, and throw a party in the sky during ‘Elevate.’ Hearts were pumping, and nostalgia was coursing through veins. There’s truly no better feeling. “BIG TIME RUSH!” shouted the crowd to the beat of the bass drum before the encore. The band finished out the night with a bang with two of their biggest hits: ‘Til I Forgot About You’ and ‘Boyfriend.’ The intensity at which the crowd was singing the lyrics was deafening, and the band loved every second. As confetti was claimed and the crowd began to disperse, everyone was in high spirits after an unforgettable evening with the boyband many will love and cherish forevermore. Can you feel the rush?
