The Strike

Indianapolis’ summer concert series, Rock The Ruins, was graced by the presence of indie-rock band The Strike. With a supporting slot for the infamous The Fray, the band delivered an energetic live performance with a 10-song setlist of straight perfection. With crisp vocals and a saxophone solo ringing through the trees, the first track ‘Overtime’ immediately sent the crowd into a dream-like state. Chris Crabb (lead singer/vocalist) blew off steam from his finger guns as the track came to a close, and sealed the deal.
The infectious vibe exuding from the stage continued onwards. The intro instrumentation for ‘Painkillers’ instantly dissolved the outside world. “Tonight we’re going to dance our pain away,” sang Chris. A little girl was spinning around, and dancing without a care in the world. Oh to be that carefree again. After inspiring the audience to chase their dreams with ‘Down,’ The Strike sent everyone to paradise with a little sing-a-long. The intoxicating sound of ‘The Getaway’ and ‘Soundtrack’ sent you stumbling back into the memories with those you love most, and allowed you to stay there for a while. In those moments you felt as if you could live forever, and nothing could take away the indescribable joy.
After being snapped back to reality, The Strike had the crowd moving and grooving during ‘Nothing New.’ The buildup before the outro was exhilarating to say the least. The band picked up speed with ‘Devils In The Canyon’ to close out a phenomenal set. The track tickled your brain in the best way possible, and is an exquisite song to dance around the kitchen to from personal experience. Tonight’s show was The Strike’s first performance in Indiana in the history of the band, and it certainly will not be their last. The standing ovation from the crowd at Rock The Ruins was pure proof of that. We will love The Strike ‘til the lights go out.
