COIN

Article by Brittany Ormiston

Chase Lawrence, the lead singer of COIN, put his hands on his head and stood there in awe. He uttered softly into the microphone, “Indy, this is beautiful.” The roar of the sold-out crowd grew even louder and echoed off the walls of the small, intricate Deluxe room at Old National Centre. Chase grasped the neck of his guitar and placed the strap over his head while saying, “Three, four.” The instrumentals of ‘You Are The Traffic’ quickly followed, and the voices of the crowd singing every lyric in unison sent chills throughout our bodies. Witnessing COIN live exceeded our expectations in every way possible.

The instrumentals were exhilarating, and watching the band jam out while jumping in sync to the beat of the drums was wild. The energy exuded from each band member intertwined with the emotion pouring from Chase’s voice with every song lyric was like magic. Chase added his funky dance moves to the mix, and showed off his vintage fashion sense by wearing a blazer and red high-top Converse. The band thrived off of every second of the show, especially when interacting with fans. During ‘Valentine’, Chase leaned on the infrastructure and blew a kiss to everyone in attendance by swinging his arm across his body. The most heartwarming moment was when he stood on the barricade and leaned into the crowd while singing ‘Fingers Crossed’ .

The visuals accompanying every track made for a more intimate show experience. At one point, COIN was written in white encompassed by blue lighting and fog, which also outlined each band member. The timestamp 10:05 appeared on the screen during ‘Let It All Out’ as a reminder that everything will be okay. As the band took their final bow before leaving the stage, the words ‘learning & loving’ were projected on the panels behind them. COIN is one of those bands that you will never get enough of, on and off stage. Their talent and authenticity will blow your mind while simultaneously making you emotional as ever. Experiencing a COIN show is like floating in a dreamland, one you don’t ever want to leave.
