Cade Hoppe

Single review by Brittany Ormiston

“It’s not easy losing somebody. It always hurts.” Rising indie-pop artist Cade Hoppe’s new single, ‘Hurts’, will have you nodding your head to the addicting backbeat while connecting with it’s emotion-filled lyrics to your own personal experiences with love and loss. The intro’s intense beat drop followed by Cade’s baritone vocals in the first verse immediately whisks you into the point of view of someone who is coping with the gaping hole of a significant other’s absence after a breakup. The piano riff that becomes very apparent in the chorus is a stroke of genius, and adds to the emotional intensity. The captivating vocals in the bridge appear far away, almost like an echo, similar to the person who is now gone. Along the way, the lyrics illustrate coming to terms with loss, and realizing there will always be pain when losing someone despite the situation and relationship with them. ‘Hurts’ is a track that will blow your mind and leave you wanting more, from the enthralling melodies to the desolate lyrics that are unfortunately all too relatable.
